He holds degrees from Northwestern University and the University of North Texas. “Although I enjoy the technical aspects of home financing, my main emphasis is centered on developing client relationships. I was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, and moved to Charleston in 1996 to attend the College of Charleston. At the College of Charleston, I received a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.A. in Music Composition. During my college career, I worked in retail and performed music locally. My four years of retail experience has truly made me appreciate customer service. I feel that excellent customer service is the key to success in the Mortgage Industry. It is a simple concept; treat others the way you would like to be treated. In other words, I will treat your loan as if it were my own.

Michael Burd, a mortgage consultant in New South Mortgage’s downtown office, was previously a loan consultant for American Home Mortgage for almost three years. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Michael moved to the area to attend the College of Charleston where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is an active member of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors and enjoys cooking, horticulture and breeding American Pitbull Terriers at his home on James Island where he lives with his three dogs, Pearl, Deuce and Bella.

A native of Fayetteville, N.C, Bob Cherry strives to develop strong personal relationships with all his clients and find them the best loan product at a competitive rate. Prior to joining New South Mortgage, Bob worked as a loan officer at American Home Mortgage. He graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as Campbell University where he earned a master’s degree in education. In his free time, Bob loves to cheer on the Wando High School Warriors. He also volunteers and supports the Diamond Warriors Baseball Booster Club. Bob also enjoys playing tennis and golf, as well as boating near his home in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

John Caruso

With an extensive background in financial advising, John Caruso helps all levels of clients meet their mortgage needs, either residential or commercial, in New South Mortgage’s downtown office. A native of Ridgewood, N.J., he holds an associate’s degree in business administration from Ramapo College in New Jersey. Before relocating to Charleston, S.C., in 2002, John was an assistant to a fixed income and real estate investment trust specialist on Wall Street, and a risk manager of a proprietary trading firm, overseeing more than 200 traders. Once in Charleston, John worked with a small client base, managing investment portfolios that included working with fixed incomes, real estate and investing in equities. A resident of James Island, John donates his time working with a feline colony rescue service that he helped start with some friends. For fun, he also enjoys traveling, golfing and skiing.

Jarrett Hodson

Jarrett Hodson moved to Charleston in 2001 to attend The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina. After earning a degree in English, he immediately began his career in banking as a loan officer. By mentoring under local top producing loan officers for two years, he gained valuable experience in the sales, finance and the management of clientele accounts. With the marketing and vast product selection New South offers, Jarrett expects to continue to increase productivity.

Ashley Mullins

Prior to working as a mortgage consultant at New South Mortgage’s Mt. Pleasant location, Ashley was a loan officer at Global Mortgage Group on Daniel Island. She holds an associate business degree from Trident Technical College and is a member of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. Ashley is also a 2000 graduate of Wando High School. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, boating, fishing and being with family and friends. An Isle of Palms native, Ashley currently lives in Mt. Pleasant.
